Every brand starts with a spark of inspiration, and for Lucky Dooby, that spark came with four paws and a wagging tail.

In the summer of 2023, the founders welcomed a beautiful black mini goldendoodle puppy named Duibhin, meaning “the little black one” in Irish. Over time, the family affectionately started calling him Dooby, and his playful spirit became the heart of a brand that celebrates the deep connection between people and their pets.

“We’re from Belize, part of the Caribbean, and also part Jamaican. There’s a Jamaican artist called Lucky Dube, and my cousin started calling Duibhin ‘Lucky Dooby’, that’s how the name came about.”

For the founder, Lucky Dooby was more than just another venture, it was a story of rediscovery.

“I’d already done a few merch businesses before, but none of them really took off. When Dooby came along, he inspired a whole new energy for custom-made merch. Spending time with him made me realize how much love pet parents feel for their animals, it opened a whole new world for me.”

Turning Passion into Personalization

Lucky Dooby started with the idea of selling dropshipped products, but that model didn’t feel personal enough. The founder wanted to create something more meaningful, something that reflected creativity, design, and individuality.

“At first, we were going to do dropshipping, but I quickly lost interest and desired something more unique. Since I’m also a web and graphic designer, I decided to go the POD way and slowly started designing and creating products.”

Personalization wasn’t just a business strategy, it was the natural next step in expressing that love and creativity.

“Because I built www.luckydooby.com mostly by myself, it took me a while to get it where I wanted it to be. I eventually hired a few people for assistance, alongside Customily support, and it’s been an amazing step forward.”
