The challenge before this update
Before this release, merchants who wanted to personalize an existing Shopify product followed this flow:
You would start by clicking Set Up Personalization for Existing Product, select the product from your store, and then link it to a Product Base or a POD product.
If you worked with a print-on-demand partner, this was straightforward. But if you did not use POD and had no Product Bases created yet, the flow broke. You had to stop, go back, manually create a Product Base, define print areas, previews, colors, and variants, and only then return to finish personalization.
For merchants with optimized listings, this felt redundant. The product already existed. The data was already there. Yet it had to be rebuilt just to unlock personalization.

With Create Product Base from Listings, Customily uses AI to turn your existing Shopify product into a complete Product Base in seconds.
The system analyzes your listing data and builds everything needed to personalize it correctly, following industry standards and best practices.
This means your existing listings become personalizable almost instantly.
How it works step by step
- Go to Customily’s main menu and click Set Up Personalization for Existing Product
- Select a Shopify product that is not linked to Customily yet
- Open the Product Bases tab and click Create from Listing
That is it. From there, Customily takes over 🤖 (powered by Gemini).
What Customily generates automatically
Using your existing product data, such as title, description, product type, variants, and options, Customily will:
- Generate the Print Area and Preview automatically
- Place the Print Area correctly based on the product type
- Create preview images for all available color variants
- Match variant structure and options from your listing
Everything is positioned exactly where it should be. And if you want to adjust anything, you can fine-tune the generated settings before publishing.
Once ready, simply choose a personalized design and continue publishing as usual.
